Featured Yarn Store and Giveaway -- Holly Tree Dyeworks!

My recent pattern, the #140 Vintage Charmer One-Ball Hat has been a great best-seller! Now, meet the company that created the gorgeous, hand-spun and hand-dyed 100% baby alpaca yarn used in this project AND enter to win one of 3 kits!

Vintage_Lace_Hat_500This pretty hat pattern was sponsored by hollytreedyeworks.etsy.com

Thanks, Sarah, the creator of all The Holly Tree Dyeworks yarns, for the beautiful seafoam green hank that you created and sent to me that inspired and really made this hat so special!

Here's more on The Holly Tree Dyeworks:

Sarah set up her shop after finding it difficult to get good quality yarn for projects she wanted to knit for her own children and eventually set up on Etsy to bring designer yarn to fellow fibre addicts at a great price.  Iusb_760x100.9079344

She runs her shop from her studio tucked away at the back of her 19th Century Holly_Tree3
Victorian House, the studio overlooks the garden and very particularly the lovely old Holly Tree where the yarn is dried in good weather and this provides a lot of inspiration for her work.

The shop stocks lots of designer sock yarns as well as laceweights and bulky yarns with colorways inspired by trips to the surrounding countryside.  Holly_Tree

All her colors are hand blended and hand dyed by her.

Thanks, Sarah!!  I loved knitting with the chunky baby alpaca. It was incredibly soft and light!  And the green shade had so much depth, it really made the Vintage Charmer hat a longtime keeper ;-)

I have not had an opportunity to knit with hand-dyed alpaca but it sounds beautiful and soft! I hope I win one. I just started knitting and have not found a local source, so it is good to know of online sources.

Nicole

The variation in color in the yarns are so beautiful. Thanks for the opportunity to win and introducing me to Holly Tree Dyetree.

So much depth and interest; 100% unique. Love handspun and dyed. Rav amchart

handspun yarn has so much love in it. just knowing that another fiber lover found this amazing fiber, spent the time to prepare it and spin it up full of infinite potential. then to add even more depth and beauty with colorful dyes, which is another whole process in which great care has to be taken. to then offer this yarn for other people to love and share, to take the yarn on another journey of being made into something that will be cherished and loved for a lifetime.

Hand dyed yard is simply just the BEST!

Dari Trout

I love the 'surprise' factor of hand painted yarn. You might think you know how something will turn out, but you could be 'surprised' by the actual outcome.

Bee

The colors are wonderful. I want to melt into them.

Wendy

Hand dyed yarns always have such wonderfully unique colors and come out beautifully in the finished piece :)

Tammy

I have not even heard about this yarn except for recently. It looks like a wonderful yarn. I would love to get some and try it out!!

Lesly

The colors are so soft! I love knitting with and wearing alpaca.

Linda D

I love alpaca yarn and hand-dyed yarns. I like the unique colorways and variations of hand-dyes and try to use them whenever I can.

Teckla Buller

I love the hand dyed yarns I've worked with for several reasons--one of which is the beautiful color variations; another is sharing something very special from another artist who created something very beautiful that came from the very heart of who she is. I think you cannot get anything more special than that!
Sewnitter,

The best hand made items are made with hand-spun, hand-dyed yarn. That way you get something truly one of a kind.

Julie

These yarns are so beautiful! Would love to work with these. They are beautiful.

Kaye

I love the individuality that this yarn produces for the hats! My hat will be my own and only mine!!

Louise

I adore alpaca yarn, but there is something about handspun. It usually is the additional love in the yarn! I would love to win this and knit my niece a hat spun and knit with love!

Diane

I love the colors and the feel

Janet

I love the organic look and feel of hand-dyed yarns and the uniqueness of each one. And because they are hand-dyed by another person, the projects feel collaborative.

Karen Tylke

Looks so incredibly soft and beautiful colors!

Mary Saunders

I love the variations in color of hand-dyed yarns that give them a unique softness.

Marion

Boy, I can't decide which attracts me more: the gorgeous hat pattern or the yummy looking yarn. Together, they look like a warm hug!

Geri Gale

I just love the unique colorways you get with and indi dyer (those show are particularly beautiful.

Marge Klein

Hand-dyed yarns always make a project look so luxurious and upscale. I would love to have some for making special accessories to give to people in my life who mean a lot to me.

Suzette White

I am always drawn to the hand-dyed yarns for their unique color combinations that you won't find in other yarns. If you take the time to make a beautiful project you want the best yarn to be proud of your efforts.

Sue

I have several skin sensitivity problems and have never been able to knit with any animal fibers. Last month, I tried baby alpaca on a small swatch and was thrilled to find it did not tigger a skin reaction. I am looking forward to trying it in a larger project. This hat would be the perfect size. I have never been able to afford hand-dyed yarns, but have seen picutres of how beautifully they work up and would love the chance to work with some.

Cyndi

I love the depth of color in these yarns. The attention to detail given during the dyeing really shows in the yarn.

kathryn stevens

A hand spun, hand dyed, hand knit hat trumps a synthetic, machine made, mass-produced hat ANY DAY. Every step is made with love.

Heather

Gorgeous yarn! I MAY have just bought some lace alpaca. :) I'd love to win more, though!

Nina G

I love your patterns! Always beautiful and perfect for these magnifincent yarns! Keep them coming! :)

karen s.

i love texture and colors. its like sea glass! so magical

Laura S

My favorite features of hand dyed yarns is their uniqueness in color and their soft texture. Alpaca is a favorite of mine because of its softness and warmth. :-)

Katherine

Thanks for all the great entries!! I will pick and announce 3 winners soon. . .

Andrea O'Neal

I'd love to win the two latest patterns (scarf and baby blanket) and have pinned both on Pinterest. Of course I'm knitting one scarf after another to get ready for fall, and I'm working on my first pair of fingerless mitts.

Linda Lee Christenberry

I love your beautiful patterns. In fact, I love your whole website!
My problem: because I have a MAC, I cannot download your PDF patterns, even the free ones. It appears you do not have an enabler for MAC.
I'm really missing out on so many good patterns! PLEASE HELP!!
Thank you for everything,
goddessgr8
