Two Hats for Two Beautiful Daughters!

IMG_1107Kay I. of Derry, New Hampshire, knit TWO versions of the #200 Woohoo Pompom Hat for her two beautiful daughters with great results!

She used Isaac Mizrahi "Carlyle" in Color: Plaza for one and Patons Shetland Chunky in Color: Deep Moss, for the other.

Here are her comments on this project:
"I made the #200 PomPom hat for my oldest daughter and her sister loved it so much, that I had to make her one too!

The pattern was easy to follow -- it worked up fast.  I think the huge pompom really finished it off well!

I made an adjustment to the second hat; I only did 4 rows of ribbing, I found the 8 rows a little too much.  The girls both love their hats and have been wearing them almost daily.

Here is a photo of them enjoying ALL our snow from Thanksgiving!

Keep the patterns coming!! :)" -- Kay I.

Thanks, Kay!  WooHoo_Hat

Mayra's Gossamer One-Ball Scarf

She used a rich color of Bijou Spun Seraphim yarn, called Pomegranate.

Here are her comments on this project: "The pattern was well written and easy to follow.

The pattern repeat is simple with great effect. The results are a delicate lacy vine that will dress up any outfit.

I will definitely make this one again!" -- Mayra R.

Thanks, Mayra! The darker color gives it nice drama.

Kathleen's Eternity Scarf

Photo 1Kathleen C. of Toronto, Ontario Canada knit up her version of the #164 Night and Day Eternity Scarf in a bold color story.

She used Briar Rose Fibers, worsted merino in Colourway - Fourth of July.

Here is what Kathleen says about this knitting project: "I actually finished the project on July 4th!

The pattern was very easy to follow and well written. The lace pattern was interesting and fun. The brioche was super simple, didn't keep me quite as engaged - I'm not a TV watcher, but could see where this would have been perfect.

I loved the contrast in patterns so kept working through it, knowing I was going to be very happy with the results.

I loved how the patterns and yarn colourway worked so well together. First chilly Fall day, this will be the one I will reach for to keep me warm.

I modified the pattern a bit, I used 55 stitches as I have a long neck and prefer a higher cowl. I used a lighter weight yarn, switched down to 5mm needles to get a neater look. I did more rows to accommodate the difference in gauge." -- Kathleen C.

To show you how differently a pattern can turn out by personalizing it with your choice of yarn, here is a photo of my original sample, which I knit in DROPS Garnstudio Big Merino yarn:

Nadja's Sapphire Lace Shawl in her own spun yarn!

Here's a version of the #181 Sapphire Lace Shawl, knit by a knitter who also spun her own yarn!

"I'm so proud of this shawl because I used my first bigger amount of self spun yarn and it turned out so wonderful." -- Nadja T. from Wiesbaden, Germany.

Nadja used Handspun BFL -- "the Colorway of the fiber was 'Schokominze'... chocolate and mint."

"The pattern is well written and can easily be adjusted to different sizes and yarn weights. I've searched a while for the perfect pattern for my first handspun yarn and I can say that I found it. I love how the pattern and the yarn work together and I wear the shawl very often."

Thanks, Nadja, for sharing your finished photos! The colors are very beautiful, adding an extra dimension to the finished shawl. 17

Bonnie's Slouchy Two-Way Hat

Bonnie_HatBonnie P. of Meredith, New Hampshire knit her Mum a beautiful version of the #105 Slouchy Two-Way Hat pattern. She used Berroco Blackstone Tweed Chunky in color # 6607.

Here's what Bonnie has to say about this project:

"Easy pattern, great result! Quick knit! Mum’s Christmas hat- she picked the pattern, she picked the yarn and we got to “do lunch”. Finally got to finish it for her in June..." -- Bonnie P.

I love the chunky, tweediness of this version! Still shows the cables with great definition, but gives it the classic, tweedy look that will look great for many years!

Jennie's Whispering Leaves Lace Cardigan in an extra long length!

Jennie_Whispering3_600Jennie M. of Round Rock, TX knit up this #141 Whispering Leaves Lace Top-Down Cardigan in very pretty gold/yellow tones. Plus, she extended the tunic-length to duster length to suit her wardrobe needs. The beauty of a top-down design!

Here are her comments on knitting up this #141 Whispering Leaves Lace Top-Down Cardigan:

"A super fun and fast pattern that only takes one skein of yarn? A-Mazing!

I mirrored the lace panel on the fronts for personal preference and kept on knitting until I used up all the yarn.

I was aiming for a duster length to wear with jeans or over a dress or skirt. I love it! It's the perfect knitwear piece for Texas.

" -- Jennie M. Jennie_Whispering2_600

Jennie used Gertrudis yarn by DizzyLettuce Yarns in the color Tangerine.

Using the blocking wires and the mannequin to block it and keep the rounded shape at the bottom is so clever!

Thanks, Jennie. It's a gorgeous length! Love the subtle color changes too.

Cabled Shaped Vest from Natalie C.

Natalie_VestNatalie C. of Berkeley Heights, NJ knit up this pretty vest in the always-lovely-to-work-with Madeline Tosh Chunky yarn. The name of the color is "pop rocks!" How fun is that?

Natalie_Vest2Here are her comments on knitting up this #118 Fitted Cabled Shawl-Collared Vest:

"I used a size 10 needle because i didn't want it too open after blocking.(I didn't quite get gauge, but mad tosh grows with blocking & I didn't care if i ended up with a more fitted, shorter look.)

I found the pattern easy to follow and I absolutely love the result! And it fits perfectly!" -- Natalie C.

Thanks, Natalie. Such a happy color! And it does fit you really well - you look great in it!

Pretty Pixie from Anne H.

Here's a bold-colored pixie hat, the #91 Fancy Stitch Pixie Hat pattern, that is a great pattern you will use again and again!

PixieHat

This one is knit by Anne H. of Ashland, OR. Here are Anne's comments on this pattern:

"I love this pattern! I've made this hat for newborns and for my 85 year old grandmother (by her request)." -- Anne H. of Ashland, OR

Anne used Caron Simply Soft in Raspberry.

"The pattern was easy to follow and fast and fun to knit, and produces a cute hat that makes me look like an advanced knitter (I'm not). I especially like that there is just enough flourish to the hat that it would make even very plain yarns look good." Fancy_Pixie_HatS_350

Thanks for sharing your finished project, Anne!  Looks like you've got this pattern down!  Hope your Grandmother is enjoying hers ;-)

(At right is the original sample on my little one, who's now 4 years old!)

Both are knit in Knit Picks Gloss HW, color Jade.

"The pattern was very easy to follow. I really enjoyed making the mitts... lace is always fun, and these mitts are different from most other patterns I've used, which made them even more interesting.

I added a few rounds of 1x1 ribbing to the hands and thumbs to make them a bit longer.

IMG_4052Thanks so much for your great designs." -- Esther
